Current Developments in Unrelated Business Income Tax
As nonprofit organizations search for new sources of revenue, organizations increasingly engage in commercial activities that could be subject to the unrelated business income tax. The IRS also has increased its attention to nonprofits' commercial business operations. This session will briefly review unrelated business income tax foundations and will explore recent developments including IRS rulings and court cases. Additionally, the session will address IRS activity such as the college and university compliance project. At its conclusion, attendees should be familiar with current developments, be able to identify pitfalls to avoid, and be able to better manage unrelated business income tax compliance.
