Supporting Organizations: Changes and Challenges
Since 2006, so-called “supporting organizations” have had tougher rules to follow, to keep their public charity status. We’ll take a look at those rules: how they came about in the first place, and how they apply to the three different types of supporting organizations. You’ll also learn about applying for supporting organization status, providing reliance to potential donors, and revised rules for requesting reclassification out of supporting org status.

Deborah G. Kosnett, CPA
Tate & Tryon
Deborah G. Kosnett is a Tax Principal with Tate & Tryon, and has more than 20 years of exempt organizations tax experience. Before joining the firm in 1999, Ms. Kosnett served as a senior tax manager at the Washington offices of KPMG and Ernst & Young, where she worked with a variety of exempt organizations, including nonprofit hospitals and multi-entity health systems, associations, and charitable organizations.
