Joel Tanenbaum
AICPA Accounting Standards Team
Joel Tanenbaum has been a technical manager on the AICPA's Accounting Standards Team since he joined the AICPA in 1988. His current Accounting Standards Executive Committee (AcSEC) projects include revising the Audit and Accounting Guide for Not-for-Profit Organizations and various other issues pertaining to not-for-profit organizations (NPOs), through his role as staff aide to the AICPA’s NPO Expert Panel/Guide Task Force.

Joel previously was the lead staff person on the AICPA’s Audit and Accounting Guide, Not-for-Profit Organizations; SOP 98-2, Accounting for Costs of Activities of Not-for-Profit Organizations and State and Local Governmental Entities That Include Fund Raising; SOP 94-3, Reporting Related Entities of Not-for-Profit Organizations; SOP 07-1, Clarification of the Scope of the Audit and Accounting Guide Investment Companies and Accounting by Parent Companies and Equity Method Investors for Investments in Investment Companies; SOP 93-7, Reporting on Advertising Costs; the Audit and Accounting Guide, Common Interest Realty Associations; and various other authoritative pronouncements. In addition, he has authored several articles for The Journal of Accountancy and other professional publications and is a frequent conference speaker.

Prior to joining the AICPA, Joel was an audit manager with BDO Seidman, where he was employed after receiving his B.S.E. from the Wharton School of Business and Finance at the University of Pennsylvania.
